Caduceus Club - University of Alabama - Heersink School of MedicineNews for 2024

The Caduceus Club was able to award Carey Phillips Travel Fellowships this year.

We are always impressed with the intellectual caliber and ambition of our recipients.

Our recipients presented an abstracts and publications at conferences around the country. Topics included syphilis screening in the Emergency Department and Disruptive Behavior: Impact on DEI in Radiology.

Caduceus Club - University of Alabama - Heersink School of MedicineTwo of our recipients attended the American College of Radiology Annual Meeting which included a day spent in exclusive presentations and meetings with policymakers on Capitol Hill. One student will be studying at Cambridge Judge Business School for his MPhil in Management to further his leadership skills.

Caduceus Club - University of Alabama - Heersink School of MedicineThis student also founded The Compassion Closet – a program that ensures every patient is discharged with dignity by providing new, weather appropriate clothing to trauma and Emergency Department patients whose clothing is cut off, soiled or damaged. We look forward to watching all of them excel in their careers.

We are hopeful to see more of our members in person in 2025!

Carey Phillips Travel Fellowship

In 2024, we awarded four MS3 and MS4 students a total of $6,000 in funds to travel abroad and within the US. Students traveled to Cambridge, England, New Orleans, LA, Washington DC, and Phoenix, AZ.

In an effort to rebuild our Travel Fellowship fund and to increase membership, our current project has been reaching out to former Travel Fellowship recipients.

Since it’s creation in 1968, we have given over $400,000 and helped send hundreds of students all over the world.

Medical Student Enrichment Program

We made our annual donation to MSEP, which provides younger medical students scholarships, enabling them to engage in valuable service and training experiences across the globe. See attached 2023-2024 informational report.
